How credits and tenant balances work

Updated September 24, 2026 · 1 min read

Sometimes a tenant pays a little extra, or you want to give them a credit for a repair or a goodwill gesture. That money sits as a credit on their balance rather than disappearing.

A credit is applied automatically to their next rent invoice before any new charge, so a tenant carrying a credit owes that much less next month. You can see a tenant’s current balance and credit on their lease.

Good to know:

  • Credits belong to the lease. They follow the tenant’s balance, not a separate account.
  • LeaseRooster never holds these funds for you. A credit is a bookkeeping entry against what the tenant owes, not money parked with us.
